The Chief Executive Officer of Portugal Telecom Zeinal Bava has been crowned the best Chief Executive Officer in Europe.
Portugal Telecom is the international partners of MTC and has been instrumental in the transferring of technology to the dominant Namibian company.
Portugal Telecom owns 34% of MTC Namibia.
In a media statement, MTC said Bava was nominated ahead of Vittorio Colao, Chief Executive of Vodafone, and Ian Livingston, CEO of British Telecom while he was considered the best CEO in Portugal by both investors (Buy-Side) and analysts (Sell-Side).
This recognition follows the awards in 2010, 2011 and 2012, when Institutional Investor had designated Bava as the best CEO in the telecommunications sector.
In 2003, 2004 and 2005, Bava was also designated the best CFO in Europe in the telecommunications sector.
“The Institutional Investor Awards are based on an annual analysis conducted by influent investment professionals. This specific study was based on a poll of 858 buy-side professionals from 460 buy-side companies and 1,580 sell-side professionals from 152 sell-side companies,” MTC noted.
Managing Director of MTC, Miguel Geraldes commenting on the awards said: “At MTC we are extremely proud to be associated with PT. We take appreciation of the achievements of Portugal Telecom under the helm of its CEO Bava.”
Geraldes added that: “At MTC our back on back growth and strong performances in the local telecoms market, is largely thanks to the input of PT and particularly that of Zeinal Bava, therefore we extend our congratulatory wishes on behalf of MTC family and the Board of Directors.”
