Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and career politician, Joel Kaapanda, has rubbished the speculation - currently rife within the top Swapo and Government structures - that he will relinquish his public post to assume a new role as Swapo’s secretary-general (SG) at the November/December Congress.
Kaapanda who took over as ICT Minister in 2005 having headed the Regional and Local Government Ministry as well as the High Commission Office in India, told The Villager on Friday that his resignation is just but a speculation.
“You guys in the media have better ears on the ground. I do not know about my resignation. I also hear it around. All I know is that I will think about retirement when I am 70,” said the 67-year-old. This gives a hint that he will not be in the next government of 2014, as he will be 69, but still does not offer clues the he is the next ruling party, SG on a permanent basis.
“Keep me posted,” he scoffed.
