Dead cop acquitted of corruption charge

The Windhoek Magistrate Court this week dropped corruption charges against a dead police officer who was charged in 2007.
Niklaas Van Wyk died in a car accident in June this year and finally had the case withdrawn against him.
In 2007, he allegedly used his power as a member of a public body, being a police offer he assisted a suspect escape from police custody after the suspect offered him N$500 as inducement.
He was charged with corruption for accepting the N$500 from Cloete Alexander and for defeating the course of justice for letting Alexander walk free.
The court, however, ordered that the case be withdrawn because the accused is deceased.
