MTC commits to NAMAs for another three years

Mobile TeleCommunications (MTC) will commit to the Namibia Annual Music Awards for another three years, chief of human capital and corporate affairs Tim Ekandjo said.

The award ceremony which usually takes place around April or May will however take place much later for this year only, he said.

“Arguably, one of the best national music awards on the African continent, the Namibian Annual Music Awards will take place as planned in 2019. For the past eight years, the ceremony has traditionally taken place either at the end of April or early May and the call for entry dates has remained consistent so far.”

“After every three years we are bound to go out on tender and the process took a bit longer than expected. However, we are committed to the event and have committed to the NAMAs for another three years which will see both MTC and NBC spearheading the event for 11 years with this new commitment,” he said.

Ekandjo also said that MTC expects to call for entries at the end of February 2019, and will in due course announce the exact date.

“When we do so, the qualifying entry rules will remain the same, meaning only albums released between 1st of Dec 2017 and 31st of November 2018 will qualify. We expect to announce the call for entries at the end of March 2019 to give artists a month to submit.”

“We will then make further announcements for the nomination launch and when the main awards ceremony will take place, as we go along the call for entries for the 2020 awards will go back to the normal dates, meaning we will call for entries for next year’s event in October as usual and the 2020 awards will take place on traditional dates which is around April or May 2020,” he said.

Meanwhile, the place for the awards will be announced to the general public through the media.
