City records highest water consumption last week
The municipality of Windhoek last week recorded the highest water consumption level which was more than the allowable target and raised the alarm that this may lead to water scarcity if not stopped.
Between the fifth and the 12th of November 2018, consumption levels flew to 9.3% which is above the normal target.
Said the municipality, “Although the challenges associated with rising summer temperatures and concurrent water use practices are recognised, the current consumption is not sustainable and can lead to the early depletion of water stock and increase the likelihood of another water crisis and severe restriction being enforced on all consumers.”
It urged the public to renew its water savings efforts in order to realise the required savings targets and get back to within the allowable consumption.
The City of Windhoek heavily relies on its water consumers to continue with optimal water management to ensure security for the foreseeable future.
