NPL break ties with sponsor
The Namibia Premier League will no more take part in any Namibia Breweries sponsored tournaments, the NPL chairperson, Patrick Kauta has said.
This was disclosed in a letter by Kauta dated the 12th of October 2018.
This is a move suggestive of a football body that has taken the bull by its horns and has effectively broken its relationship with the sponsor.
Kauta was responding to a letter by NPL secretary general, Barry Rukoro notifying the NPL of the launch of the 5th edition of the Dr. Hage Geingob Cup sponsored by NBL, MTC and supported by Air Namibia, Namibia Wildlife Resort and Huawei.
Rukoro was also requesting for the releasing of players for a match against Ghana on the 24th of November 2018 at Sam Nujoma stadium,
Kauta informed Rukoro that NPL has consequently banned all NBL products from their events.
“The justification for NPL resolution is that it will not be used to promote a brand that pays lip service to the development of the game,” Kauta said.
The letter was written to Rukoro and he could not be immediately available for a comment when this publication contacted him.
