Karas wins Skorpion Zinc U17 Cup
Karas Region defeated Omaheke 3-1 on penalties to win the fifth edition of the Skorpion Zinc Under17 Cup at Omulunga Stadium in Grootfontein on Monday afternoon after a goalless match.
Otjozondjupa beat Erongo Region 1-0 in the third- and fourth place play-off match to take bronze.
Mekere Nganjone was the only player from Omaheke who converted his spot while Armando Isaacks, Marcel Maans and Ibrahim Appolus scored for Karas.
Ulpianus Ameb scored the only goal of the match to take his tournament tally to eight goals.
In the individual prizes, Kavango West got the Fair Play award-winning a cash prize of N$2 000.
Anton Kanyetu was announced as the match official of the tournament and won N$2 000 cash prize while Ulpianus Ameb of Otjozondjupa Region took home N$3 000 for the top goal scorer with eight goals.
Omaheke region goalkeeper Vejora Katjatenja walked away with the best goalkeeper award and N$3 000 cash prize.
The most valuable player of the tournament, Dandre Both from Karas Region walked away with N$4 000.
Karas region won N$25 000 with gold medals; Omaheke Region received N$15 000 while Otjozondjupa and Erongo Regions each received N$7 000 for finishing third and fourth respectively.
The four-day teen’s tournament saw 56 goals scored in 30 games over four days of thrilling action at Omulunga Stadium in Grootfontein.
