President Geingob congratulates Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa on his election as ANC president
The campaigning has ceased, the votes have been cast and the people have spoken.
On behalf of the rank and file of the SWAPO Party, I would like to offer our sincerest congratulations and comradely felicitations to you, on your election as the President of the African National Congress at the 54th National Conference of the ANC.
At this historic moment, we would also like to pay tribute to, and salute Comrade Jacob Zuma, for his exemplary leadership as President of the African
National Congress, for the past decade. He has displayed courage, loyalty, patience and a mature temperament throughout his tenure, laying a platform for the continued growth and popularity of the ANC.
The ANC remains a vanguard revolutionary movement with an illustrious history of fighting to free African people from the brutal grasp of colonial oppression, and in modern times at the forefront of the fight for the economic emancipation of those who have been left on the fringes of the economy.
To have ascended to the helm of a political party of this stature is no mean feat, and is an endorsement of your character, determination and leadership ability. The ANC rank and file have shown faith in your abilities by handing you the ultimate mandate as President of the ANC.
The people of South Africa and Namibia share historic links, molded by destiny, tested by history and solidified by a long and bitter struggle against
Apartheid. Nowhere else are these links exemplified then at the political level, where the ANC and SWAPO have shared trenches, have shared prisons and now, share the daunting responsibility of leading their people towards a future of shared economic prosperity. With this in mind, rest assured that you have the full and unwavering support of the SWAPO Party, as you embark upon this illustrious chapter in your life.
As you prepare to assume your tenure as President of the ANC, I would like to avail myself, should you need to liaise with me at any time, on matters of political and mutual concern.
It is now time to unite all cadres behind one unified voice; the voice of peace, the voice of progress and the voice of prosperity for all South Africans. I look forward to working with you, to continue building upon the excellent relations shared by South Africa and Namibia.
On behalf of the SWAPO Party, may I wish you continued good health, strength and wisdom as you commence this great assignment of taking the ANC and the Republic of South Africa to higher heights.
DR. HAGE G. GEINGOB
