Popularisation of wealth blueprint starts

Poverty eradication ministry has kicked off with its popularisation clustered workshops of the Blueprint on Wealth Redistribution and its implementation plan in Katima Mulilo, Zambezi Region.

The Blueprint is a policy document, which was developed to guide the implementation and coordination of all Government poverty eradication related initiatives and programmes under the different Government Offices, Ministries and Agencies as well as State Own Enterprises.

The technical staff of public offices, ministries and agencies SoEs, the private sector and civil society, developed the Blueprint.

The implementation plan was presented to Cabinet Ministers for their inputs and validation and shared with the private sector, civil society and faith-based organisations.

Speaking at the launch minister of poverty, Zephania Kameeta highlighted that the ministry is responding to the war against poverty as declared by President Hage Geingob in the form of policy documents to all relevant stakeholders.

Kameeta added that the blueprint had been exposed in workshops to seek the input of the Namibian people and to avoid drawing up plans for them while officials sit in their offices without knowledge of the conditions on the ground.

The objectives of the workshops are to inform the stakeholders on the Blueprint and its implementation and to forge collaboration with the interested parties and enhance coordination of the activities under the implementation plan.

The Blueprint aims to implement the strategic priority areas as derived from the proposals gathered during the national dialogue, such as the strengthening of social protection systems; ending hunger; access to basic social services; education, training and skills development; employment creation as well as gender equality and women empowerment.

Kameeta further explained that the Blueprint had been aligned with the critical national development plans such as the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP) and the Fifth National Development Plan (NDP5) and in this regards the Blueprint focuses on issues of social progression and transformation, good governance and underscores the need for monitoring and evaluation framework.

The popularisation clustered workshops will run until 24th of October.
