Extortion case withdrawn

Three Khomasdal man appeared in the Katutura Magistrate court last week on charges of extortion but their case was thrown out due to a docket delay.

Melvin Van Wyk, Romano Van Why and John Bernerdt were arrested on 10 October last year when they allegedly contacted a woman and demanded money from her so that they do not harm her boyfriend.

They allegedly asked the woman for N$1 200 while at Gammams Service Station in Khomasdal.

The men, who did not get the money, were arrested the following day when the woman reported the incident to the police.

They were all released on N$1000 bail last year and had been waiting for the court to bring forth the docket for continuation of the case.

Last week, the magistrate threw out the case against the three men as the missing docket has still not been brought forth.
They were refunded their bail money.
