The annual 2017 Namibian Squash Association (NSA) Business League currently underway has this year pulled together big brands in the corporate world which are locked in a titanic clash as they race for the top prize, The Villager Sport can report.

Teams battling it out in the league at the Wanderers Squash Club comprise BDO, The Namibian, Trustco, A&I Financial Services among others. Speaking to The Villager Sports League Organiser Henk Knipe said everything is smooth and this week has seen teams battling it out in the semi?nals with the ? nal rounds set to roar to life next week.

“It is very competitive this year, and the teams are very close to each other, and everybody is doing their best to be in the ?nal,” he said ahead of the Wednesday and Thursday night semis.

Squash has been rated as one of the healthiest sports world over, and according to Knipe the fact that corporates have embraced the sport testi?es to their dedication to a healthy lifestyle. “First of all, I should say if you look at the Forbes declaration for the past four years, squash is the healthiest sport in the world currently.

Having all these companies taking part in the sport is great. It shows that they support a good or healthy lifestyle,” said Knipe. The Business League organisers are excited with the manner in which the sport has taken root in the country so far while this year’s business league has so far lived up to its billing.

“The quality of squash throughout the business league has impressed and is a testament to the growth of squash in Namibia. The competition between the contenders has proven to be mouth-watering from beginning to end with the semi?nals only decided in the last week of the round robin stage of the league,” says the Wanderers Squash Chairperson Steve Berry. Past winners and top contenders BDO, Solitaire and Bad News were tipped to remain as top contenders, he says.

However, the new comers Team A&I and Glue Devils showed intent from the start and have upset the top contenders in this year’s edition of the NSA Business league. Final standings in the penultimate round are as follows; Glue Devils, Bad News, Alensy and Team A&I.

The semi-?nal matches will showcase the yearly stalwarts Alensy and Bad News in the 1st epic battle with the newcomers Team A&I and Glue Devils showdown in the 2nd epic battle. BDO has reserved their position in the ?nal of the plate section of this years’ edition of the NSA business league with their courageous performances. This years’ 2nd ?nalist will be contested between Trustco and Solitaire Press which poses an enticing battle between long-time rivals.

“It must be mentioned that the teams of the plate section are by no means weaker than the teams in the cup section,” says Berry. He adds, “The competition this year was of epic proportions with no clear victor of an evening making this years’ NSA business league tournament truly entertaining.”

With the plate and cup semis having concluded last Wednesday and Thursday, Berry says the ?nals would be taking place on Thursday 14 September 2017. “The NSA would like to thank the sponsors of the teams for their contributions towards the success of this years’ NSA Business League; BDO, Solitaire Press, Alensy, A&I Financial Services, The Namibian (Bad News), Toolco, Trustco,” Berry concludes.
