Uncle rapist forced victim watch porn

by Linekela Halwoodi

a 21 year old woman who was raped several times by her uncle seven years ago tried to kill herself twice while under police care.

Testifying in court against the uncle, Nepando Willem from Katutura, the girl said he would invite her to his house where they would watch pornography before he initiated sex.

At one time, the girl said, Willem asked her to perform oral sex on him while they were at Wernhil Shopping Complex in the city. She was just 14 years old at the time.

“He saw a style he wanted to try. He gave me N$50 after that,” said the girl.

She further told the court that it started with Willem fondling her breasts and buttocks before he started having sex with her during weekends.

The rape, which spanned two years, started in 2005 when Willem would lock her in his bedroom, watch porn with her before sex.

“We used to live in the same location. He would call me for the weekend,” the girl told the court.

The girl also said her mother ignored her pleas for help. The matter only came to light when the girl, who had turned 16, told her teacher about it.

Willem was then arrested in 2007, detained and was released on N$1500 bail while the girl was taken into the custody of the Women and Child Protection Unit.

It was during this time that she tried to kill herself by drinking pills and later by slitting her wrists.

Willem is facing three rape charges with an alternative charge of committing an immoral act with a girl under the age of 16.

When he briefly appeared in court last week on remand he was told to return to court on 24 April this year.
