Zimbabwean home affairs minister, Ndabazekhaya Mathema has said that the country will learn from Namibia’s strict border controls in order to control unnecessary movement of immigrants in that country.
He made these remarks during a courtesy call to Namibia this week, where he added that strict border control of imports and exports ensure economic growth.
“Border control will ensure that our country’s economic growth is stable. We are also here to strengthen ties between the two countries’ security operations and to learn from Namibia because Namibia as a good and strong safety and security system in place.”
“The other focus are we were discussing is the illegal immigration issue and how best the two countries can deal with it. I will not be able to go much deep in that discussions now because we are still on the early stage of the discussions. One of the important issues we discussed was also the issue of electronic border management systems which will best suit our country to because of movement between our countries,” he said.
The minster of home affairs, Frans Kapofi said that the two countries will also be strengthening bilateral ties in areas of agricultural production.
“We have strict border controls in place and it is one of the best in Africa. We deal well with illegal immigration issues and our neighbors are interested in learning from us, that is one of the purposes of the minster’s visit.”
“Both countries will learn from each other in this area. Namibia has a lot to offer Zimbabwe as a neighboring country to learn from. As a SADC member country that there are many areas we need to learn from each other,” he said.
The delegation is expected to return to Zimbabwe today.
